Police distribute pamphlets on crime safety where bogus cops operate

The fake police officers commit crimes at these intersections in groups of between two and four.

Police held a crime awareness campaign recently on Malibongwe Drive and the N1 on- and off-ramps, where they said bogus cops are committing hi-jackings.

The other location is William Nicol Drive and its N1 Highway on- and off-ramps.

Randburg police spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja said the Randburg police crime prevention unit, victim empowerment coordinator, social crime prevention and communication officials led the awareness campaign.

“The purpose of the awareness was to address contact and property-related crimes in the policing area,” Maja said.

“Pamphlets were distributed to the motorists with general safety tips, including hijackings as the area has been identified as hotspot.”

Maja said the suspects operate in groups of two to four and use a white Ford Ranger, a white Volkswagen Polo, blue, white and silver Toyota Corollas, a grey Nissan Navara and a Nissan Almera.

“The victims are held against their will and dropped off in different areas around Gauteng,” he added, saying the fake police officers use blue lights on the vehicles.
