Dwars Street substation to be secured after work is done – City Power

City Power says it is waiting for stock of equipment before finishing the job and securing the newly installed substation.

City Power said the work on the new Dwars Street substation was not finished and it was yet to be secured.

This after cable theft had led to the whole substation being replaced recently, and concerns raised by residents that it may not be safe, especially as the nearest streetlight had been vandalised and did not work.

Ward 101 councillor Raf Bittkau confirmed, however, that incidents of cable theft had been decreasing in the ward and no further incidents have occurred at that particular site in Bromhof.

City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said, “We are aware of the mini-substation and we have spoken to the residents and councillor about it. We do have patrols around it.”

He added the reason the substation was not secured was because the job was not finished.

“We have [a] feeder cable fault and are currently running temporary cabling. We are waiting to complete the job permanently when stock becomes available. That is the reason the door is open but we have [ensured] it is reasonably secured.”

Mangena concluded that their streetlights team had been notified about the vandalised streetlight and would attend to it.
