Girl guides learn about different countries at fun adventure in Delta Park
Piñatas, henna painting and fun campfires characterise an adventure girl guides had in Delta Park.
Gauteng Central Girl Guides held a fun International Adventure for girl guides and their families at Delta Park.
They visited eight ‘countries’ located around the park to showcase girl guides around the world.
Each base displayed the flag, national bird, and guide promise and there was an activity relevant to the country for the participants to do.
At Mexico, there was a piñata while at the India base there was an introduction to henna painting and an opportunity to try some.
There is a big wall in the park that was once part of a sewerage works. This was treated as the Great Wall of China, the length of which had to be estimated by participants by walking along with it.
The haka was taught at the New Zealand base and magnet fishing at the spruit for Japan.
Pancakes to eat with maple syrup were made by the participants on buddy burners at the Canada base and Australia involved learning about the Aborigine boomerang and making one each.
At Switzerland, there was a logic challenge where a shepherd had to take sheep, a wolf and a bale of hay to the top of the mountain one a time while ensuring that the wolf did not have an opportunity to eat the sheep and the sheep was not able to eat the hay.
The event was followed by the regional annual general meeting where a number of certificates of all branches were presented to top achievers.
To end the day, there was a fun campfire with hearty singing and much fun.
