On the day, the Cosmo City Community Youth Forum gathered to teach the youth about the importance of celebrating June 16.
Many youth of 1976 battled and died for the rights of all South Africans to freedom, liberty, education, and equality.

Empowering youth via skill-building programmes and activities was one way to safeguard tomorrow’s leaders, according to the forum.

Stakeholders such as Wits University, Powa, Sanca, Bank Access, Atvance Academy, Boston City Campus, Business College and many more joined hands to provide information and development skills to attendees as a symbolic means of demonstrating respect for the youth who died for liberty.

“One of the reasons why we here as the youth of Cosmo City is to discuss the issue of unemployment the youth is faced with. And we want to draw attention to creating youth into the future entrepreneurs of tomorrow,” said Pulane Radikgomo, Cosmo City Youth Forum convener.

Founder of Atvance Academy Bossman Tlali said the academy would offer a management course which would empower youth to become job creators.

“Those who are interested in the course, the programme will start soon, and they should look for the date at Multipurpose Centre in Cosmo City. They should bring their South African identity document, should be between the ages of 18 and 27 and bring their matric certificate results.”

The commemoration ended up with youth performances of singing, poetry, drama and dance.
