Cold and rainy weather could not stop the seventh annual event returning after a break since 2019, nor could it dampen the spirits of rugby supporters.

Mascots and war cry leaders urged the sea of blue Hoërskool Randburg and green Hoërskool Linden fans on, as the players gave their all on the field.

Randburg hosted the much-anticipated event and proved too good for their local rivals.

They won four of the six main matches, including the 1st and 2nd team games.

“We won the trophies but there really was no winning or losing school,” Randburg’s principal Pieter Booysen told Randburg Sun.

“This was a community event that the children, parents and friends enjoyed. I am extremely grateful with how the day went and how both schools were able to showcase themselves.”

Furthermore, Booysen said the tightly-contested games that were full of quality, demonstrated the rugby talent both schools offered.

Linden’s head coach Martin Henning congratulated Randburg on the all-important 1st team win.

“We are grateful for everyone that came out to support our teams, in spite of the fact that the day was cold and rainy. A special thank you to Hoërskool Randburg for the hospitality that they extended to us. As far as the games are concerned, we are excited that Linden can compete with any other school and showed great character on the day.”
