Randburg youngsters to perform in Drakensberg Boys Choir at Joburg Theatre

The concert will feature hits from Ed Sheeran, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Imagine Dragons, Maroon 5, and many more.

The Drakensberg Boys Choir School will perform at Joburg Theatre for the first time in four years, and two Randburg youngsters cannot wait to take the stage.

Khumo Gwatyu (12) from North Riding and Luke Kuypers (13) from Blairgowrie will be part of the full concert choir on June 23 and 24.

“I have been at the Drakensberg Boys Choir School for three years and I love the opportunity the school has given me to work on my musical talent and how I am learning to be independent,” Khumo told Randburg Sun.

“I am most looking forward to the concert and the excitement of seeing the theatre.”

Luke, who has also been at the school for three years, loves the location and ‘numerous life lessons I experience each day.

“I am most looking forward to the thrill of performing in the same venue as the Pantomime,” he told Randburg Sun.

The concert will be held at The Mandela at Joburg Theatre and will feature a varied repertoire of the choir.

From Vivaldi and Mozart to an Ipi Ntombi medley, Ed Sheeran and Andrew Lloyd Webber, to Imagine Dragons and Maroon 5 before interval and then a second half of foot stomping, drum beating, gumboot dancing, pulse of Africa music, there are few choirs that can match the versatility and excellence of these youngsters.

Tickets are available at www.joburgtheatre.com or by calling 0861 670 670.
