Stop-gap Johannesburg Mayor Mpho Moerane Dies

Moerane's family confirmed his passing on May 18.

Former Alexandra Zone 13 leader and stop-gap Mayor of the City of Johannesburg succumbed to injuries on May 18.

This follows after his car crash on May 9.

“Mpho was a well-known activist full of life determined and committed to working for his community. The family would like to acknowledge the continued outpouring of messages of support by the public and formations.

We appeal that at this moment, his family is afforded the time and space to reflect and reconcile on overcoming this tragedy, “said Mike Maile, family spokesperson in a statement.

“We will endeavour to inform the public on all due arrangements. The family will liaise with all relevant structures accordingly and we urge everyone to keep them in their prayers.”

Moerane is succeeded by his wife Fikile, four kids, mother and siblings.
