Attempted murder convict to be in prison until he is 68

Constable feels confident about his cases after securing a conviction after a shooting.

Police are celebrating the successful conviction of a man for attempted murder and armed robbery.

It was back in September 2020 that Rodrigues Kamdemi Shifehle robbed a man close to Bromhof Spar.

He shot the man with a hand gun and then fled on foot after robbing him.

Honeydew police officers arrived on the scene quickly and ran after the suspect through a nearby veld and up a hill where he was apprehended shortly after the attack.

Investigating officer Constable Godfrey Mathevula took the lead in the investigation, administering the docket, taking fingerprints, and collecting forensic and medical report evidence.

“The greatest challenge was that the victim lived in the bushes there,” Mathevula told Randburg Sun.

“He and the other homeless people who were witnesses had one phone between them and sometimes you would call and he would answer and sometimes someone else would. It was very difficult to get hold of him. We even had to go to Maputo for the victim’s statement because he is not South African and he was deported after going to hospital.”

Still, the constable said his passion and determination drove him to succeed and this conviction had given him confidence for future cases.

Rodriguez Kamdemi Shifehle aged 43 and who is a Mozambique national, was found guilty of robbery with aggravating circumstances in Krugersdorp Regional Court on April 4 and given a sentence of 25 years’ imprisonment.

“I am satisfied with this outcome. Mr Shifehle thought he could come to South Africa and get away with committing a violent crime, and instead he will now be in prison until age 68.”
