Another successful clean-up operation held

Clean-up operation continues to fight against waste management in Ferndale Spruit.

Ferndale regains ownership as a clean suburb as it continues to clean waste in the area.

Another successful ongoing clean-up operation held by the Urban Inspectors, JMPD, Randburg police, Joburg City Parks and Zoo, Pikitup, Environmental Health, and Citizens Relationship Urban Management (CRUM) took place on May 4.

A clean-up operation is a project aimed at cleaning the environment in the city. “This clean-up operation is an ongoing project which started on March 28 and will further extend its clean-up to Strijdom Park and the surrounding areas once it’s done with its services in Ferndale,” said Urban Inspector Nokuthula Ngobese.

Furthermore, Ngobese said that they don’t know how long it will take them to clean up the areas that needed to be cleaned because tomorrow they might still find waste in the places that have already been cleaned. Hence, they call it an ongoing clean-up operation.

A huge part of Ferndale Spruit was successfully cleaned and restored. The team managed to cut down the grass and trees that were starting to become bush in the area. A clean-up of a waste and plastic-filled river resulted in a clean, flowing river.

As a result, a resident says they are happy about the clean-up operation, although they are concerned about when the clean-up will be done in the area.

“I am happy and positive about the progress the clean-up operation has made so far. I worry that when we don’t have road closure, the homeless people will keep recurring and filling the space as their dumping site and place to stay, “explained Kimberly Nkala, Ferndale resident.
