Learners who suffer from thigh chafing receive tights

Lunje Foundation assists learners at Cosmo City Secondary School who suffer from thigh chafing.

With the focus on the girl child, Lunje Foundation distributed tights to young adolescent learners who suffer from thigh chafing, in Cosmo City Secondary School.

The distribution was done on April 22 and the foundation’s executive director Nobuhle Ngwenya said the initiative was designed by women to help female learners. “We want to bring comfort to the girls and help them participate in classes,” she said.
She added girls would be able to concentrate in class more if they didn’t have to worry about thigh chafing. “We spoke to one of the girls and she indicated that it was hard to even participate in sports and it was the most embarrassing thing to tell other people.”

She said their initiative was to create awareness about the problem and let learners know that it was normal to have thigh chafing and that they shouldn’t feel humiliated. “This will allow them to boost their confidence, focus in class and hopefully get better results at the end of the year.”
A social worker at the school Nothemba Saleni said poverty, gangsterism and substance abuse were the other main challenges faced by learners at the school which accommodated more than 1 700 learners from Kya Sands, Zandspruit, Thabo Mbeki informal settlement and Cosmo City.

The foundation hopes to take the initiative to other schools and is seeking funds. Anyone who would like to donate can call Ngwenya.
