The women, who meet twice a month at the Village of Golden Harvest, donated the items to the Cradle of Hope on March 30.
The non-profit organisation is based in Krugersdorp is an independent social upliftment and community development organisation that helps women and children in desperate need. The organisation’s public relations and marketing officer, Dima Tomotomo, who accepted the donated items, said it meant a lot to their organisation which is dependent on the public for sustainability. “We serve more than 2 000 people in our community every week and this donation will go a long way,” she said.

She said they help about 700 people with food parcels every Monday. “We also help about 81 children from the preschool and our items depend on donors. We rely on donations like this because we have a lot of community children coming to us just with clothes they are wearing and with nothing else,” she said.
Tomotomo added that they have women and children who are living in their shelter and any donations they receive help them.

Trish van Wyk, who started the Chatterbox group about four years ago, said initially the idea was to get elderly women out of their homes and give them an opportunity to spend time with others. “We spend Thursday afternoon twice a month here knitting and making a fellowship,” she said.
She said all the clothes and blankets will go to the Cradle of Hope and they would continue to support charities.
