“On January 30, information was operationalised after members had received information about the whereabouts of suspects who were involved in a hijacking and murder that happened at Darenwood Estate last week,” Sibiya said.

“The CCTV footage shows suspects busy tussling with the victim and subsequently shooting the victim multiple times as they made off with his vehicle, a grey Ford Figo. The suspect was arrested [in] Eldorado Park.”

She added that a white Nissan Almera, which was used in the hijacking and murder, was recovered during the arrest and it was a stolen vehicle with false number plates affixed.

“In the possession of the suspect was a silver Toyota Corolla, and the suspect was arrested for murder, hijacking and possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles. The video footage regarding the incident had been circulating on various social media platforms. We urge the community and all social media users to refrain from circulating any video footage or photos of any victims as it can traumatise the family of victim and other social media users.”

Sibiya said police expect to make more arrests soon.
