Hijacking and armed robbery suspects arrested

FERNDALE – Randburg police officers arrest two suspects for hijacking and another two suspects for armed robbery.

Two male suspects aged 35 and 49 are expected to appear briefly at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court to face charges of hijacking.

Randburg Police Station spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja said it is alleged that at about 23:45 on January 23, the suspects were driving a white bakkie and blocked a victim’s vehicle on the corner of Oxford Street and Long Avenue, Ferndale. “The victim was threatened verbally to open the vehicle… which he did. He was pulled out of the vehicle, [told to lie] down and searched. The suspects took the keys and drove off with his car,” Maja explained.

“The K9 unit spotted the vehicle and managed to arrest the two suspects and recover the vehicle.”

In another incident, two men aged 21 and 34 were arrested after allegedly robbing a woman of her handbag on the corner of Kent Avenue and Republic Road in Ferndale. “The victim was threatened with a sharp object in order to [submit] to their demands. The [stolen] items were recovered.”
