Suspect apprehended after discharging a firearm in Fountainbleau

FONTAINEBLEAU – Joint effort between police and private security companies led to an arrest.

A man, who allegedly shot a dog in Fontainebleau on the morning of 18 January, is in custody.
The suspect, who is about 50 years old, was arrested by Linden police and private security companies after the incident.
According to Linden Police Station spokesperson Sergeant Takalani Sibiya, a resident in Fontainebleau heard a gunshot on her property.

She immediately notified her husband who then swiftly alerted police and the private security companies. “SAPS [police] and members of security companies responded to the complaint only to find the dog that was shot by some unknown perpetrator,” said Sibiya.
A search was quickly conducted within the area and a suspect, who was wall-hopping, was arrested.

Sibiya said it was subsequently established that the same suspect had committed three burglaries in the same area. Authorities also discovered the property that was stolen during the burglaries. They also recovered a firearm with ammunition.
The suspect has been charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of unlicensed ammunition, possession of property suspected to be stolen, three counts of housebreaking and theft, malicious damage to property, discharging of a firearm in a public place and trespassing.

The suspect will be appearing in Randburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
“The management commends the cooperation between police and the external role players [security companies],” concluded Sibiya.
