Cynthia Bezuidenhout, the Randburg Sun hero of the month is ‘a hero and has the kindest passion for animals’.
This according to her colleague, Craig Rudman.
Bezuidenhout has been awarded a R1 000 West Pack Lifestyle voucher in appreciation of her contribution to the care of animals at the SPCA.
The organisation’s kennel and charity shop manager started her journey with animals in 2007. “The SPCA is a well-established but unfortunately poorly understood organisation. We have our primary focus on the prevention of cruelty to animals. This includes running the municipal pound. This means we take in thousands of animals each year which are either removed from abusive homes or are surrendered to us as unwanted,” she said.
She added they were in the unique position to bring change and transformation to the lives of thousands of animals, and although it was rewarding, it could be emotionally taxing.
“I am humbled at this nomination… I wish to thank and congratulate all our colleagues at every SPCA around the country, everyday heroes.
“I have never won anything so this has made my day. Thank you. I read the message [informing her of the award] about three times, making sure I read it right.”
