Honeydew CPF aims to grow further after decrease in crime is seen

HONEYDEW – The Community Policing Forum is glad to have seen a decrease in crime in the Honeydew police precinct.

The public relations officer for Honeydew Community Policing Forum (CPF), Michael Steyn has outlined the achievements and challenges of the year. He writes:

Highlights:
I think the highlight of this year is seeing how our patroller programme has really grown and working well. We have more than 90 registered volunteer patrollers on record who offer up their time and money to keep the community safe. As patrollers, they spent 5 000 on the streets of Honeydew policing precinct either patrolling, or assisting at crime prevention events. This also includes our victim support team who sees to many victims.

Advice:
We want to remind residents to check and test their security systems. Make sure everything is in working order. If you are travelling make sure you well rested and take breaks every two hours.

Hero/s:
Between our victim support team and patrollers we honestly cannot choose one hero. All our patrollers are dedicated to what they do so I would like to honour all their efforts as a team.

Challenges:
We have lost great people within our community due to Covid-19. However, it’s important to keep our heads up and keep on doing what we are successful in. If we look at the stats released by police service, Honeydew has seen a massive decrease in crime and that’s because of all the hard work both SAPS and patrollers put in.

Hope for 2022:
Our hope is to become a even bigger and better team. We can never have enough volunteer patrollers and our main aim is to get the team out on patrols multiple times a week. This can only be achieved with a much larger team.

Connect:
Community members can join by contacting Jon Rosenberg who is not only our deputy chairman, but also head of patrollers, on 082 450 2305.

Festive greetings:
Christmas is about spending time with family and friends. It’s about creating happy memories that will last a lifetime. We as Honeydew CPF would like to wish all our residents a merry Christmas and a happy new year.

The start of each new year is a time to reflect on the year just past, and make plans for the future. It holds a special magic, with a promise of new opportunities and the possibility to change our lives for the better. And given how challenging 2021 has been for us all with Covid-19, it feels especially important to express our hopes and dreams for better days ahead in 2022.
