Free World Initiative is organising a demonstration outside Randburg Magistrate’s Court, for when a man will appear facing charges involving the rape of his daughter.
The girl, who is now in matric and suffering from tremendous emotional stress while trying to write her exams, alleged that her father raped her in her bedroom in November last year in Bryanston.
The organisation’s Lebogang Motau explained that the girl was 16 at the time and didn’t inform her mother initially but became distant and avoided the father because he threatened he would kill himself if she reported the incident.
“She only opened up in July this year and then opened a case, despite threats,” Motau explained.
“He was in a holding cell for three days and was granted bail, [we are ] currently trying to revoke the bail as he has not kept to the agreement. The daughter is seeing a counsellor. She has been highly affected, this being made worse by the fact that it is her matric year.”
Motau said the girl still does not feel comfortable and has to sleep with her mother in her mother’s bed.
“They are currently in the process of trying to move. Her mother has felt that she has become withdrawn and can’t even make plans for her future. She was always a driven young lady, now she has not even applied for next year’s studies. The father has been emotionally blackmailing her, saying he will kill himself also asking what would happen to his sons, who are very young, if he was no longer around.”
The demonstration will be at 08:00 on December 3.
