Doorway to Dignity and the Ultimate Braai Master teamed up at the Ferndale Bible Chapel to host the annual Pots of Hope initiative on the eve of World Homeless Day. The day was spent preparing and cooking potjies meals that will be packaged and distributed to organisations that cater to homeless people ahead of World Homeless Day on October 10.

Doorway to Dignity CEO Trevor Webster was pleased to see individuals, organisations and sponsors coming on board to support the cook-off and for a well-run event. He said this was the most successful Pots of Hope initiative of the five he has hosted. Webster said, “The support we received to host this has been phenomenal and, as a result, we will be able to serve 600 meals which will be distributed to various non-profit organisations, places of safety, and provide a decent dignified meal to them.”

With the sun out and charcoal burning, the space was filled with many smiling cooks looking to make a difference by feeding those less fortunate and be awarded the honour of the best potjie meal. One such person was guest judge and The Ultimate Braai Master’s Chef Benny Masekwaneng who was thrilled to take part in the festivities. He said, “It’s my first time being involved with this and it sounded like a great idea with everything that’s been happening in the country. Everybody is going through a tough time and the homeless have it worse.”
