Securing the most important meal of the day

ROBIN HILLS – Learners will have something to eat while on holiday thanks to recent donations.

Founder of Child Protection Hotline and author Danie van Loggerenberg, and Top Score Maize Meal’s Alicia van Wyk recently donated maize meal breakfast packs to the learners of Robin Hills Primary School.

Van Loggerenberg and Van Wyk delivered about 300kg of maize meal which is prepared by mixing it with water or milk, to the school which will help fill the tummies of the learners. Van Loggerenberg said, “Some of the learners at the school come from less fortunate homes and them not being able to learn because they are hungry isn’t right. We hope these [maize meal] will help keep them focused on their books and education rather than how hungry they are.”

Acting principal of the school, Royston Sanders was grateful for the donation and said it would go a long way in feeding some of the learners during the school holidays. He added, “Our school is made up mainly of needy children from the Windsor areas. We feed about 150 a day but the problem comes when it’s the holidays, how do we feed them when they don’t come to school.
“This allows us to give the learners something they can eat while at home until we see them again.”

He thanked all those that continued to partner with the school to make the learners feel cared for. “We are always thankful for donations like this and thank Van Loggerenberg and Van Wyk, and all those that have supported our food bank for our learners. We are grateful for the help and will never refuse getting such help from those that care.”
