Home invaders shoot husband and wife in complex on Randpark Drive

RANDPARK RIDGE – Police investigate case involving the shooting of a couple and assault of their brother-in-law during a robbery.

Police have opened a case of murder and house robbery after two suspects broke into the home of a couple in a complex in Randpark Ridge and shot the husband dead.

The couple’s brother-in-law was assaulted and the wife was also shot and wounded during the incident on Randpark Drive at about 21:10 on October 3.

Constable Takalani Sibiya, spokesperson of Linden police but stand-in for Honeydew police, said police arrived to find medical personnel and security officers on the scene.

“It is alleged that the couple and their brother-in-law were at home when two suspects entered,” Sibiya explained.

“Both [suspects] were dressed in blue overalls and [had] firearms. The suspects threatened [the] victims and started to ransack the house. “The suspects shot the first male victim [husband[, aged 30, in his upper body and leg. He died on the scene.”

The wife was shot in her right upper leg.

Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said the woman required advanced life support intervention to stabilise her before she was taken to Life Flora Hospital.

“A third victim [brother-in-law], aged 67, was assaulted and taken to Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital for stitches [on his head],” Sibiya added.

“The suspects fled with three cellphones, a laptop and a wallet containing cash. It is suspected that suspects entered [the] complex through the main [entrance].”

No suspects have been arrested yet but an investigation is underway.
