A total of 15 suspects arrested by Randburg police were convicted sentenced during the month of September.
Police spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja described this as a strong message to offenders, especially those responsible for gender-based violence (GBV) crimes.
“Fifteen suspects were convicted… of crimes ranging from common robberies, assault with intent to cause grievously body harm, GBV related crimes, Covid-19 contraventions and shoplifting,” he said.
The convicted were sentenced with fines ranging from R1 000 to R6 000, or with imprisonment of three to six months.
“We would like to warn our community that crime does not pay, and when people have issues, it is better to resolve them amicably or get professional help than resorting to violence,” Maja concluded.
