Meet Ward 104 councillor candidate, Emi Koekemoer

FERNDALE – Meet the DA's ward councillor candidate for Ward 104.

Emi Koekemoer grew up in Randburg and now she returns to run as the DA candidate for Ward 104 councillor, for the local government elections on November 1.

This after Mike Wood decided to step down at the end of October, after he held the office for 10 years.

Wood has endorsed Koekemoer, who grew up in North Riding and attended Laerskool Fontainebleau and Hoërskool Randburg, but spent a few years in politics in the North West.

The 28-year-old Marialett, or Emi for short, is back in Joburg and wants to use her impressive political resume to better the area she grew up in.

“At 22 I was inaugurated to my first term as a PR councillor in the 2016 local government elections for Matlosana municipality,” she explained.

“I served on the portfolios for sport, arts and culture and corporate services as well as on the local labour forum. I was elected as the North West youth chairperson in our 2017 elective conference. I joined the DA Youth federal structure the same year.”

Koekemoer was elected as a regional student representative council deputy chair for Unisa in 2018 and she formed part of the sectoral youth parliament four years in a row.

“I was also part of the South African Local Government Association (Salga) and UCT women in local government leadership programme 2021,” Koekemoer concluded.
