Police arrest two of the most wanted suspects in Gauteng

COSMO CITY – The suspects were linked to murders, house robberies and business robberies.

Gauteng Police have arrested two of the most wanted suspects in the province, during an operation in Cosmo City on July 20.

“This is a breakthrough for the intervention team that has been formed to trace and arrest these most notorious and wanted suspects,” said acting Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng Police, Major General Tommy Mthombeni.

“These arrests will help us to close most cases of house robberies, business robberies and murders where these suspects are linked.”

The two suspects are linked to crimes of this nature in Olievenhoutbosch and the surrounding areas.

They were found with unlicensed firearms loaded with ammunition and are are expected to have their first appearance in the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court on July 22.

In a statement from Gauteng Police, it was noted that during the Ministerial Imbizo that was held in Olievenhoutbosh in May, the community complained about a man who was terrorising the community.

In response, the Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela established the intervention team to hunt down the suspect and all other criminals in the area.

The unit received information about a possible hideout of one of the suspects, which led to the high-profile arrests.

In the suspect’s possession, police found a firearm that is linked to an Olievenhoutbosch case. After interviewing him, the suspect took the team to another place where the second suspect jumped through a window.

He was chased and arrested. Also in his possession, police found an unlicensed firearm loaded with ammunition.

Gauteng’s MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko, noted the efforts of the police in this matter with a five-tweet thread on Twitter.
