JMPD launches investigation following viral video

OLIVEDALE – Community members have come out in full support of the woman, encouraging other to buy her dog beds and support her in any way they can.

The Johannesburg Metro Police Department has launched an investigation following a viral video in which officers confiscated dog beds from a vendor in Olivedale.

The video, which has been popping up all over social media sites, shows the two metro police officers busy confiscating the beds. Community members pleaded with the officers, even offering to pay for the beds, but they continued, undeterred.

In the video, a community member can be heard, alleging that the officers had man-handled the woman. It has also been reported that the officers tried to solicit a bribe from her.

According to JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla the street vendors’ operation was previously brought to the attention of the department’s management.

Community members have come out in full support of the woman, encouraging others to buy her dog beds and support her in any way they can, so that she in turn can support her family.

JMPD has issued a statement confirming that it is aware of the allegations, and that an internal investigation is currently underway.
