UPDATE: Six dead and six arrested after mob justice incident

ZANDSPRUIT – Six suspects have been arrested and a further two victims have passed away after the incident of mob justice in Zandspruit on 19 May.


After a concerted police investigation, six suspects have been arrested after the incident of alleged mob justice in Zandspruit on 19 May.

Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubele said the deaths resulting from the incident now total six people after more victims passed away from their injuries while receiving treatment in hospital.
“Following the efforts of the murder and robbery investigation team, three more suspects were arrested last night [20 May] for murder, attempted murder and kidnapping. The total number of arrested suspects is six as the police continue to search for more suspects,” added Makhubele.

Three victims are still in hospital in a critical condition.
The arrested suspects will appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 24 May.
Makhubele urged community members who may have witnessed the incident or know of those involved, to come forward anonymously with information to help the police’s investigation.
