A pastor of a Robin Hills church has been arrested after allegedly sexually assaulting one of his church members.
Linden police spokesperson Constable Takalani Matumba said the victim was apparently invited to the pastor’s house for a sleepover and anointing prayer.
“The pastor invited the victim to share a bed with him and the pair went to sleep. During the middle of the night, the victim awoke to find the pastor with his hands down the front of the victim’s underwear touching the victim’s private parts,” said Matumba.
The victim jumped out of the bed and told the pastor that he was feeling uncomfortable. The victim left the pastor’s house and went directly to report the incident at the Linden Police Station.
Responding officers promptly placed the pastor under arrest at the scene of the alleged assault.
“At this point, we are not sure whether or not this was the pastor’s only victim, and investigation into this case will be taken very seriously. We appeal to all community members who may have fallen prey to sexual assault from their pastor to come forward as this will help with our investigation.
“We further appeal to all victims of sexual assault to report incidents at your local police station when they happen. Always remember that we have victim support systems in place to ensure that victims of sexual assault are cared for and feel safe,” concluded Matumba.
Further details surrounding the incident and the age of the victim cannot be divulged by the police at this stage as the case was under investigation.
