Over 40 suspects arrested in Honeydew operations

HONEYDEW – The Honeydew Police recently arrested over 40 suspects.

Honeydew police arrested more than 40 suspects for various crimes from 1 to 12 March.

Honeydew police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan said several individuals were arrested for selling liquor without a licence in operations conducted in the Cosmo City and Zandspruit areas.

“Our officers have been working incredibly hard, and as a station, we truly commend their efforts. Our Robbery Reaction Unit and Echo Squad has been working tirelessly in continuous and tiring operations and these are the results of their efforts. A series of our recent operations saw officers visiting liquor outlets in an aim to curb the sale of illicit liquor and selling liquor without a licence,” added Muthan. He said the police have adopted a zero-tolerance approach in the illegal dealing of alcohol in the area and beyond.

“We are shutting these places down daily, not just on weekends when this type of activity is at its most prevalent, and there is a lot more work to be done.”

Large consignments of liquor have been confiscated by the police to be used as evidence and when the criminal cases have been concluded, all of it is destroyed. In a separate incident, one suspect was arrested for the possession of a stolen motor vehicle. “The vehicle was hijacked in Cosmo City, and working in conjunction with our colleagues at the Alexandra Police Station with information investigated by us, we were able to recover both the stolen vehicle and the vehicle used in the hijacking.”

Muthan encouraged the community to continue to report crime. “We, as a station, urge the community to be vigilant and continue to report crimes when they happen. Successes like this show that we aim to go beyond the normal call of duty and continued community support will only lead to more successes like this.”
