Suspected Robindale burglars arrested

ROBINDALE – Four suspected burglars were arrested on 6 March.

The Linden police are celebrating the successful arrest of four suspected burglars after they were apprehended on 6 March.

Linden police spokesperson Constable Takalani Matumba said that the police were made aware of a house break-in that occurred on Winston Avenue, Robindale during the early morning and were placed on high alert. “The suspects broke into the child’s bedroom of the house, stealing various electronic items before fleeing the scene,” said Matumba.

Later that afternoon, members of Linden police’s Echo Squad were performing routine patrols in the Blairgowrie area when they spotted a white Toyota Etios parked at Nelson Road. “Three males were sitting in the car while another was pretending to be on the lookout for someone. Our officers thought this was suspicious and proceeded to search the vehicle,” added Matumba.

She said that on closer inspection, the vehicle’s licence plated did not belong to the vehicle, and when searching further, police discovered the various electronic items allegedly stolen from the previous house break-in. The suspects were arrested and detained at the Linden Police Station to face charges of housebreaking and possession of stolen goods at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court soon. To help prevent incidents of housebreaking in the policing area, the Linden police are urging the community to test their alarm systems for functionality.

“Make sure that your alarm systems are in working order. Some people, because they never have an emergency to use it, never get their alarm tested. When a crime occurs, an alarm system is of no use to you if it is not working. “While it is highly recommended that your alarm system is connected to a security company, it still can be used as a deterrent if it is not,” said Matumba.
