Ninety suspects arrested in weekend cluster operations

RANDBURG – Ninety suspects were arrested over the weekend of 26 March in various operations in the sub-district.

The Johannesburg West Cluster police are proud to announce the arrest of 90 suspects over the weekend of 26 March in various operations in the sub-district.

Randburg police spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja said that the operations comprised of officers from local police stations and other law enforcement agencies. “Several roadblocks were conducted to curb drunk driving including stop-and-searches for illegal firearms, stolen property and drugs that destroy our communities,” said Maja.

During the operations, many suspects were arrested for various crimes ranging from housebreaking and theft, assault under the Domestic Violence Act, possession of drugs, dealing in liquor without licence and possession of suspected stolen property. “In another success in the Douglasdale policing area, two suspects were arrested for being in possession of a hijacked truck. It is alleged that the truck was hijacked in Orange Farm and the arrest emanated after the information was provided to the police. Our members responded quickly, and found the suspects allegedly busy stripping the vehicle in a place of storage,” said Maja.

He said that all suspects are expected to appear briefly in the Randburg and Roodepoort Magistrates’ courts, respectively, after being formally charged.
