Okae Molao operation sweeps Honeydew

HONEYDEW – Police have begun their Okae Molao operations in an aim to curb crime and show an active presence in the area.

The Honeydew police joined by their Gauteng Provincial Police counterparts have begun their Okae Molao operations with an aim to curb crime and show an active presence in the area.

The police were out in full force with the help of the Gauteng Traffic Police and Metro police in roadblocks across the Honeydew policing precinct to crack down on suspects carrying illegal weapons, drugs and stolen items on 6 February. “Okae Molao is an integrated operation where, with the help of other law-enforcement agencies, we target areas where we believe crime is problematic,” said Honeydew Police Station spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan.

Hundreds of vehicles were stopped and searched, with provincial police officials keeping a keen eye on the operation. Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela led a collective of law enforcement agencies to the roadblocks in Honeydew. Other visiting officials included Deputy Provincial Commissioner Policing Major General Tommy Mthombeni, and Johannesburg Acting District Commissioner Major General Anna Mateisi.

Law enforcement agencies braved the rainy weather to ensure the safety of road users, and more than 20 people were arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Muthan concluded, “We will continue throughout the month, and further, with roadblocks that will involve stop and searches to search for drunk driving, dangerous weapons, illegal items and stolen vehicles, but also to heighten our visibility in the area. Our goal is to deter crime by showing a strong presence in public spaces such as shopping centres and busy intersections on roads.

“We strongly assure that we are here for the public, and it is our mission to make them feel safe in every possible way.”
