56 dumped tyres recovered in Ferndale Spruit

FERNDALE – Members of the Ferndale Residents Association recovered 56 discarded vehicle tyres that had been dumped.

During a recent clean-up of the Ferndale Spruit, members of the Ferndale Residents Association recovered 56 discarded vehicle tyres that had been dumped in the spruit.

According to De Jager, FRA members Bruce and Celéste Young retrieved these tyres from the spruit during the clean-up day that aimed to see the community lending a helping hand to clean and beautify the spruit area on 20 February. She said that a waste reclaimer was caught by FRA members a while back dumping these tyres there.

“When a member asked him where the tyres are coming from, he was told that a tyre place in Randburg pays him to dump it on their behalf,” said De Jager.

The tyres were left on the corner of Harley Street and Vine Avenue and an appeal was sent out to the Ferndale community to ask for assistance in their disposal. “No one has taken a tyre yet. Today [22 February] we will attempt to get assistance from the authorities,” said De Jager.
