Nosh to the Food Rescue

RANDBURG – Nosh Food Rescue on 2020.

Nosh Food Rescue was founded in 2015 and officially registered as a non-profit in 2017. The non-profit shared what they will do differently this year, with knowledge of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The year 2020 was a year of being reactive to incredibly changing and challenging circumstances, constantly on the hop. For Nosh it was an extremely dynamic year, but it was also very taxing and heartbreaking,” said the organisation’s founder Hanneke van Linge.

This year Nosh will use the experiences from last year and are determined to build for sustainability and grow their Food Rescue activities to encompass significantly more food sources as well as feeding schemes.

“We would love to expand to a national footprint, but that depends on the available resources and possible collaborations. We would love to engage with businesses and people to explore potential working relationships, we need and want to grow but we cannot do this alone.”

Van Linge appealed to all to donate their time, skills and talents to Team Nosh.

“For example, if there are any logistics companies out there who might be able to sponsor some vehicle time, we would absolutely love to hear from you! We have not lined up any Odd Plate Dinners due to the Level 3 restrictions, but please join us on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter to keep up to date with what we are up to.”

“We’ve almost finished our 2020 data capturing and it looks like we diverted over 1 000 tonnes of food from landfill in 2020. This is an amazing milestone and represents significant growth for us!”
Van Linge explained that South Africa wastes 12.6 million tonnes of food per annum.

“We still have a way to go before we attain our goals of #ZeroFoodWaste and #ZeroHunger, so we look forward to hearing from anyone who is keen to donate or engage! Sadly we are not yet significantly funded, so we have to appeal to the public and private sector for support, but every little bit helps to keep us rescuing!”
