HONEYDEW – National Police Day will not be celebrated this year due to Covid-19 regulations.

Unfortunately, the annual National Police Day will not be celebrated this year due to Covid-19 regulations.

National Police Day, which usually takes place on 27 January, is a day celebrated by police stations across the country to acknowledge the hard work and determination of officers, and those officials who have fallen.

“Due to circumstances surrounding the current Covid-19 pandemic, and the regulations put in place regarding gatherings and social distancing, we cannot come together as usual to celebrate this National Police Day,” said Honeydew police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan.

The day is usually celebrated annually with much pomp and circumstance in a colourful musical ceremony at Linden Police Station’s Memorial Park.

Officers and other police members march proudly in full regalia to the tunes of the Gauteng Provincial Police Band, and senior national police officials give speeches commemorating officers’ efforts and those officers who have fallen in the line of duty during the year.
“All we can do is hope and pray that all our colleagues and supporting members are safe together with their families, continuing to perform their excellent duties in helping to keep their communities safe and secure.”
