One suspect shot dead after Ferndale house break-in

FERNDALE – One suspect was shot dead during a house break-in.

One-armed suspect was shot dead by security officers during a house break-in in Ferndale on 17 January.
Randburg Police Station spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja said that during the early morning homeowners allegedly heard someone attempting to break into their home.

“The two suspects were heard by the complainant, who speedily pressed the panic button linked to their security provider,” said Maja.
Security officers responded to the alarm and two suspects were found inside the house.
“One of the suspects threatened the security officer with a firearm and he was shot dead, while the other one was arrested.”
Two firearms and ammunition were recovered on the scene.

“Upon a preliminary investigation, items were recovered that had already been taken out from the house and hidden outside the premises,” he continued.

Some of the items were identified as taken from another house around the same area.
Randburg Police Station Commander Brigadier Michelle Jones applauded the officers for their quick response to the alarm. She further praised the working relationship between police and security companies, saying ‘it is one of the best ways to deal with crime’ in the Randburg policing precinct.

The 36-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrates Court to face charges of housebreaking and theft, robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition including possession of the stolen property.
