Local Facebook group founder puts the ‘active’ in activism

RANDBURG – Local Facebook group founder thanks community for their contribution while encouraging small acts of kindness.

Founder of Facebook group Share A Meal SA Fatima Mohamed writes:
This year has been really tough, we have experienced loss, and fear. It has taught me to appreciate what I have and how I can learn to be positive. It has taught me to be kind and that we all can get through this if we all stand together, hence my highlight this year is to lend a helping hand and make a difference where I can. We can’t expect to see change if we don’t change.

My lowlight of this year was losing my job, unexpected and unprepared. Losing some friends and being away from family due to lockdown and the Covid-19 situation.
To each and every person that has participated to lend a helping hand on the group is a hero.

I would really like if the people participated and donated one or two wrapped presents for the children at Lilylike Pre-School in Cosmo City. It would be amazing if every child gets a Christmas gift this year. It’s been a tough year and there has been a lot of loss.

My hopes for my Facebook group is that we carry on practising kindness and making it a routine in our daily lives. Kindness makes the world a better place and makes us better people, why don’t we all make it a habit to make a difference. Whether it’s a smile, a wave, some kind or encouraging words, advice, sharing knowledge, offering a meal, donating food parcels or clothing. No kindness is insignificant, yet it is highly and equally rewarded.

I really hope this article and my motives for my group inspire the people that read and understand. I hope people put more effort into giving as opposed to judging. That they choose kindness over selfishness and realise we go through rough times but standing together and helping each other makes a huge difference. Kindness builds trust among each other, it makes us happier, hopeful and holds us together.
