WCSS envisions great things for 2021

WINDSOR – Windsor Community Support Services hopes to see greater community engagement in 2021.

Windsor Community Support Services’ community liaison manager Mathabo Bekimbia-Tchoffo has reflected on some of the community group’s highlights of 2020.

“In 2020, we registered the group as a fully non-profit organisation, and we started our operations in February.

Being appointed by the WCSS as community liaison manager awarded me an amazing opportunity to make a difference in my community,” said Bekimbia-Tchoffo.

She said that the group has made many new friends along the way and she would like to thank every member that works toward the upliftment of the Windsor area.

“We have received so much support from our stakeholders and our staff are doing a marvellous job. Our team focuses on community safety, enhancement of the public areas, business retention, economic growth, and capital improvements in Windsor. We aim to restore and maintain a clean and healthy environment for our community.

“Our community hero for 2020 is Dorothy Myburgh She is one of our Ubuntu-Botho care volunteers. She’s such an amazing woman doing remarkable work within the community, she runs a soup kitchen feeding the homeless twice a week and she also assists the elderly with transport if there’s a need. Doing all this out of her own pocket,” she continued.

She said that the Covid-19 pandemic was the lowlight of the year and many planned initiatives by the group could not be carried out.

She hopes that in 2021, every Windsor resident can take ownership of their surroundings, making Windsor a cleaner and safer suburb for all.

“We hope to have dedicated teams caring for each area with expanded and promoted staff, and more residents helping us out in community initiatives. We also hope that issues with problem properties can be resolved in 2020.”

She added that the WCSS hopes that all community members keep Windsor streets clean during the festive season. She discouraged substance abuse, drinking and driving, and that residents be responsible citizens by wearing a face mask and keep a distance.
