BLAIRGOWRIE – A 32-year-old man was arrested by the Randburg SPCA inspectorate, with the assistance of the Linden police, at a residence in Blairgowrie after being filmed cruelly beating, kicking and strangling two puppies of three months old.

Head of inspectorate of the Randburg SPCA Shiven Bodasing said that the man was found on different occasions allegedly abusing the animals cruelly in several videos.

In one of the videos, a puppy was seen being carried upside down by its hind legs and then being flung head first into a metal bucket.
After receiving this evidence, the Randburg SPCA proceeded immediately to the scene of the alleged incident, where the suspect was pointed out and identified by his friends.

“It was found that there was a blatant disregard for the welfare of the animals, and from video footage, there seems to be a clear intention to cause harm to the vulnerable animals. Such blameworthy conduct will be met with zero tolerance. People need to learn to do better, if you cannot care for it, don’t have it,” said Bodasing.

SPCA inspector Bradley Hughes added, “I just can’t understand why you would commit such a senseless act, these puppies are harmless and kept trying to get away from him, and he would just continue to kick and harm them.”
Bodasing said that there were three other dogs discovered at the premises, and all the animals were seized immediately. They will remain in the custody of the Randburg SPCA, where their welfare will be of paramount importance.

“This incident highlights just how important evidence is, and further how essential a role it plays within the framework of animal protection, often a photo or video can be the nail in the coffin,” concluded Bodasing.
