Honeydew police liquor operations continue successfully
HONEYDEW – The Honeydew police have continued their drive to clamp down on illegal liquor outlets and shebeens, successfully arresting four suspects in separate cases on 20 October.
Honeydew police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan said that one suspect was arrested for selling liquor without a licence in Cosmo City with a R10 000 estimated value of liquor confiscated.
Three further arrests were made in other raids and suspects were charged with illegal dealing in liquor.
Muthan added, “One shebeen that we raided was found abandoned, but alcohol was found and confiscated. All alcohol will be destroyed. Our goal is to eradicate the presence of these shebeens and illegal liquor outlets, and we will not rest until every single one has shut its doors and those behind them are arrested.”
He said that in the recent operations, a total of 825 292ml of liquor has been confiscated to the value of R24 058.
When the trials of the arrested suspects have been concluded, all confiscated alcohol is destroyed.
“We would like to extend a big word of thanks to all officers and Metro police involved in these operations, and we would like to thank our Echo Squads for their assistance that have resulted in tremendous successes,” concluded Muthan.
