Fire devastates Aldarapark house

A devastating fire tore through the house of a Doring Close family on 30 September.

Private and non-profit emergency services Fire Ops SA, who work closely with the City of Joburg Emergency Services management, responded to the scene first in an attempt to quell the blaze.

“It is difficult to explain exactly what caused the fire at this stage as an investigation into it still needs to take place, but what we do know is that there was a gas installation inside the house that exploded when a possible electrical spark ignited it,” said spokesperson for Fire Ops SA Riaan Papenfus.

The fire began at 11.38 am, with first responders arriving at 11.50 am.

While the blaze devastated a large portion of the house, four rooms and the house’s outbuildings were saved.
On the scene, the Randburg Sun spoke to the tenants of the property, who wished to remain anonymous.

“We are absolutely devastated and we cannot even begin to imagine the number of goods that we have lost. It looks as if the fire may have started in my daughter’s bedroom, which has now been completely destroyed,” said the tenant.

No injuries were reported. The Randburg Sun has contacted the City of Joburg EMS for reports into the investigation of what caused the fire and is awaiting their response.
