A celebration of heritage at Curro Aurora

SUNDOWNER – Curro Aurora Primary School celebrated Heritage Day in the form of getting together to dance to the popular Jeruselema song.

The youngsters and teachers of Curro Aurora Primary School spectacularly celebrated Heritage Day in the form of getting together to dance to the popular Jeruselema song on the last day of the school’s term. Both the teachers and learners took the opportunity to dress in the bright and interesting clothing of the school’s variety of cultures from the elaborate pinafores of traditional Bulgarian garb to ornate traditional Zulu headdresses. “We are proud to be a really diverse community. Today was a great opportunity for both our learners and teachers to come dressed in their original cultural attire. Seeing all these bright colours and variety of styles shows how we are a true reflection on the diversity of our country,” said head of Curro Aurora Primary School Christiaan Maree. He added that the best thing is about having such a diverse school is the level of respect and tolerance their learners get to develop for one another. “The Jerusalema song has truly helped to unite our country during this trying time, and it is proudly South African. It is great to be part of this experience as a school,” continued Maree. The school’s head of culture Dane Gabin said that he was proud to have organised the dance according to the original choreography. “The entire nation is doing this right now, and it is great to follow suit. Words cannot express how proud I am that our learners and teachers were able to pull this off so stylishly, and we really put a lot of work into it. The song shows how proud we are to be South Africans.”
