Zandspruit man allegedly murdered during argument

Honeydew police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan said that the incident occurred after an argument ensued between the victim and the suspect about property rights.

A Zandspruit man has been arrested under suspicion of murder after a 51-year-old man was found hacked to death on 19 September.

Honeydew police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan said that the incident occurred after an argument ensued between the victim and the suspect about property rights.

“The victim is said to have owned shack-space in Zandspruit. The suspect and his accomplice were allegedly building on the property of the victim, without his permission. When he went to investigate, the three reportedly argued about it,” said Muthan.

He said that what followed was the alleged brutal murder of the landowner. “During the argument, the suspect and his accomplice are suspected to have hacked their victim to death with a deadly weapon.”

Members of the Honeydew police engaged in a thorough investigation and managed to track down and arrest the 24-year-old suspect after the case was reported to them.

“Through the tireless efforts of our officers, one suspect has been arrested for murder, and the other suspect is still at large. Our investigation will continue to work to bring the other suspect to book. As station management, we praise our officers for their quick response and sterling effort.”

The arrested suspect will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court soon.
Muthan further appealed to any members of the public who may have information on the second suspect to contact the police
