Randburg police discover drugs hidden in dealing hotspot

Dozens of packets filled with what is suspected to be marijuana and packets filled with crystals were discovered hidden in spots.

In a joint operation between the Randburg police, the West Rand K9 unit, and private security companies on 21 August, a large number of drugs were discovered in areas where dealing is said to occur.

Randburg Police Station spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja said that the officers targeted areas in the operation where members of the public were concerned about the alleged dealing and use of drugs. Dozens of packets filled with what is suspected to be marijuana and packets filled with crystals were discovered hidden in spots.

“The area between William Nicol Drive and Main Road in Bryanston was searched, and we found a large number of substances suspected to be drugs. We recovered them, including suspected stolen items,” said Maja.

Although no arrests were made on the day, the station is claiming this discovery as a huge success.

“Our officers will emphasise the monitoring and raiding of this area to keep it drug-free and to stop crime caused by it,” he continued.

Maja added that this success comes after a 38-year-old suspect was arrested on 20 August for dealing in drugs.

“This arrest came after the information received by us was operationalised. The suspect is expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court soon,” added Maja.

Randburg Police Station Commander Brigadier Michelle Jones appreciated the efforts made by the public in providing information like this to the police. She further encouraged the community to continue to support the police in fighting this sort of criminality.

Maja further encouraged the public to continue reporting crime, and this can be done so anonymously through 086 000 10111 or MySAPS app which can be downloaded on smartphones.
