Scholar transport company feeds 200 in Cosmo City

The team from scholar transport company Have a Safe Trip visited Cosmo City Ext 20 to deliver 50 ‘packets of hope’ to help feed over 200 people who have been struggling during the Covid-19 crisis.

“Hope stands for ‘help our people exist’. Once again, we worked with community leaders and visited a house of refuge, and we aimed to try and get a cooked and nutritional meal to as many people as possible and create a bit of awareness about those who may be struggling during this time,” said Have a Safe Trip’s Chet Goldsman.

“This is a very nutritional meal and the packets are relatively inexpensive to make up. One packet costs around R25 to put together, and it makes a delicious soup,” he said.

The meals were put together with the help of contributor Sharon Horn.

“It’s great to grow awareness and support in the community by getting some assistance to those who are struggling. Life is tough, and this year has been difficult for many,” said Goldsman.

He said that since his last charity drive in June, many community members have helped in the donation of food, clothing and money, and Have a Safe Trip has raised over R2 500 to help those in need.

Have a Safe Trip is appealing to the wider community to help in the contribution of ingredients to these bags of hope, as well as an identified need for clothing for communities that need it.

“We hope to be doing this sort of thing regularly, and we aim to visit communities in Zandspruit soon. We want to extend a helping hand to those who feel like they have not received one in a long time,” he concluded.
