Eskom has announced that stage 2 load-shedding will be implemented today (1 September) from 12pm to 10pm.
The power utility said the generation system is severely constrained due to multiple unit break downs. “It has become necessary to implement stage 2 load-shedding today [1 September] from 12pm to 10pm. Ten generation units at seven power stations suffered a breakdown in the last 48 hours,” said Eskom in a statement.

Eskom said the unplanned breakdowns stand at 11 665MW of capacity, adding to the 4 558MW currently out on planned maintenance. “Any further deterioration in the generation performance may necessitate the escalation of load-shedding st short notice.”
“We urge the people of South Africa to help reduce electricity usage in order to assist Eskom to reduce the instance load-shedding.”
