Talented musician, Jordan Pretorius comes to town

Pretorius described this as a dark time but what helped him overcome it was the love of his fans and fiancé

Randburg music lovers will benefit from an SA’s Got Talent (2014) and Idols (2018) contestant who recently moved to the area.

Jordan Pretorius (26) is one of the few full-time musicians in South Africa who is also disabled. “Geared with nothing other than my guitar, wheelchair and voice I have been given opportunities to perform for thousands of people as well as sharing the stage with some of the biggest names in music, Arno Carstens, PJ Powers, Prime Circle and more,” Pretorius said.

“But all of the above has not come without challenges. Between 2016 and 2020 I’ve had an incredible yet very dark journey. I lost my dad to murder in 2016 and my mom passed away due to the disability that we shared in 2017.”

Furthermore, Pretorius and his fiancé Margaret lost their child in 2019.

“Ever since losing my mom, I had also lost my home. I was homeless and even slept at an airport for a few days being fed by the local tuck-shop.”

Pretorius described this as a dark time but what helped him overcome it was the love of his fans and fiancé. “The reason for wanting to tell my story is not to attract any sympathy or empathy whatsoever, but to try and inspire and motivate people,” Pretorius added.

“I believe that I’ve been put on this earth to change the world. Yes, I know that sounds crazy but I want people to look at me and listen to my songs and think, ‘that dude is in a wheelchair following his dreams. Why can’t I do that?'”
