The Linden Police are warning people who exercise by jogging or running in local parks to be vigilant of criminals.
Linden police spokesperson Constable Takalani Matumba said that this warning comes after the police have received a few cases surrounding this problem.”For people that exercise by running or jogging, make sure that when you are exercising that your valuables are always hidden from plain sight. Be vigilant of those in front of you and behind you at all times,” she said.
Matumba said that a common hotspot that the police are paying attention to is Delta Park. “Criminals are taking advantage of people who use Delta Park for both exercise and walking. This is a very big area to police and we encourage visitors to be vigilant at all times,” said Matumba.
She continued to say that people should also remain vigilant in shops and shopping centres.”People must also be on the lookout when they are waiting or queueing at shops or the Post Office, as we have received a few cases where criminals are taking advantage of those waiting in queues. “Take good care of your handbags and avoid chatting on your cell phone as these criminals are known to grab cell phones and bags before escaping in nearby getaway vehicles,” she concluded.
