PRESIDENT RIDGE – On the property, the staff member and security encountered three male suspects who immediately ran away when seeing the complainant and security. The staff member chased down and managed to grabbed hold of one suspect, who was armed with a crowbar.

The Linden police and security companies successfully arrested two suspects after they were alerted to an attempted break-in at Hoërskool Randburg on 30 June.

According to Linden Police Station’s spokesperson Constable Takalani Matumba, the complainant, who is a staff member at Hoërskool Randburg, was on duty at the school in the late evening of 29 June.”He received a call from a fellow staff member informing him that there may be trespassers on the school property attempting to break-in. He then alerted the school’s security company, who backed him up to investigate,” said Matumba.

On the property, the staff member and security encountered three male suspects who immediately ran away when seeing the complainant and security. The staff member chased down and managed to grabbed hold of one suspect, who was armed with a crowbar. A second suspect hid in the bushes near a school building, and security with the police who had arrived on the scene were able to discover where he was hiding and apprehended him. The suspects allegedly cut a fence at the rear of the school to gain entry to the premises.”Thanks to the help of the school’s security company, the police were able to arrest two out of the three suspects,” said Matumba.

The suspects were found to be carrying a bag with a variety of tools commonly used to break in to properties. Matumba confirmed that a case of trespassing and possession of housebreaking implements against the two captured suspects was opened. The case remains under investigation and the police appeal to the public for information on the third suspect who remains at large.
