Zamokuhle After Care needs sponsors to re-open its doors

ZANDSPRUIT – The centre is in urgent need of hand sanitiser, gloves and masks for the staff as well as learners to comply with Covid-19 guidelines.

Princess Kwakwari of Zamokuhle After Care in Zandspruit appealed to the Randburg community to help sponsor the centre as they planned to open their doors in the second week of July.

The after-care facility for children in Zandspruit and surrounding areas last opened its doors in March, before President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that schools would close due to the Covid-19 pandemic. As parents and guardians return to work, the centre has been asked to re-open to take care of children who do not have adult supervision. Kwakwari told the Randburg Sun that she wished to have only Grade R learners back initially, as she would like to practice social distancing. The Grade R learners make up 45 of the 92 learners the centre catered to.

With five staff members, three would be responsible for 15 at a time, as well as split across the different classrooms. This was under the assumption that all 45 attended the aftercare. Kwakwari expressed that the centre is in urgent need of hand sanitiser, gloves and masks for the staff as well as learners to comply with Covid-19 guidelines. Zamokuhle has been scheduled to open on 6 July, however, this will not be possible without the correct infrastructure in place.
