RANDBURG – Three suspects have been arrested after two separate robbery incidents in Randburg.

Three suspects have been arrested after two separate robbery incidents in Randburg on 9 June.

Randburg Police Station spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja said the first victim was standing in a queue on the corner of Oak Avenue and Sentrum Road in Randburg when a suspect who was standing behind him, allegedly grabbed his cell phone and ran into a waiting getaway vehicle.

“The vehicle then sped off. The suspects were traced and one suspect was arrested. Through further investigation, the other suspect was tracked and arrested,” said Maja.

The vehicle used during the commission of the crime was also confiscated for further investigation.

In the second incident on the same day, the victim was walking on the corner of Oak Avenue and Sentrum Road when a suspect who was walking behind him, attempted to grab the victim’s handbag, but the victim managed to retrieve and secure it.

“Immediately, another suspect got out of the vehicle that had stopped next to the victim, grabbed the handbag and ran back into the vehicle. The suspect was also traced and arrested,” said Maja.

The three suspects, who are between 24 and 39 years old, are expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court after being formally charged with common robbery.

The Station Commander of Randburg Police Station, Brigadier Michelle Jones appreciated the effort by the members who reacted quickly to the public’s information.
