Trinityhouse’s plan to curb alleged racism and discrimination

In response to allegations of racism put forward to them by current and past learners, Trinityhouse Randpark Ridge has seen the need for the school to be more proactive in their dealings with racism at their school.

The school’s headmaster Farone Eckstein responded to a letter containing these allegations sent to him and posted on various groups on social media. He said, “We acknowledge that there are individuals and groups within our school community who are carrying a disproportionate burden. “We acknowledge that we have not always listened with empathy when these issues have been raised with us.”The school said Eckstein had started engagement with past learners and they were in the process of creating a forum that would facilitate these conversations with the help of an external consultant.

In addition to the creation of the forum, the school said they were also committed to the following:nA full review of their code of conduct to ensure that no policies, procedures or systems in their school support or enable racism. nA full review of other aspects of the school, such as language policy, informal events, artefacts and other practices that contribute to the culture of their school.

All staff and learners will undergo diversity training with a particular emphasis on anti-racism as an active world view.nThe school will protect anyone who raises concerns with us and their disclosures will be handled in confidence and with the necessary sensitivity. “We hope that we can rely on you to contribute to our efforts and that you will be available to join the conversation once the platform has been established. We will ensure that this forum is widely publicised and that contributions are welcomed,” concluded Eckstein.
